Packer Park to get a 10 Story Skyscraper

Just when you thought Packer Park couldn’t get anymore Congested…
Now they’re proposing a 10 story, 100 foot skyscraper right next door to the CVS on Broad Street.
The Parcel Is Currently Zoned Residential

The Developer can currently, legally build 150 homes on the piece of land and easily sell them for $500,000 each. However, he feels like the highest & best usage of this land would be to build a 100 Foot, 10 Story, Commercial Office Building with 250 parking spots. Despite all of the excess land and current commercial space in the Navy Yard (literally 2 blocks away) and the tremendous tax benefits that triggered companies like GlaxoSmithKline, Urban Outfitters & Jefferson Hospital to relocate from their old space and come to the rapidly growing business district at the Navy Yard.
There was a meeting at Holy Spirit School about the project on 11/11/2015. Several people questioned Mark R. Nicoletti, vice president at Philadelphia Suburban Development Corporation, the owners of the near four-acre property why he was opposed to keeping it residential. His answer was basically that He could make more money developing it as a 10 story commercial building, regardless of how it affects or conforms to the Packer Park Community.
