Stogie Joe’s Tavern in Passyunk Square
Stogie Joe’s Tavern
Stogie Joe’s is definately my favorite bar in South Philadelphia.
It’s a comfortable neighborhood establishment, with world class bar food. I’ve never eaten anything that wasn’t worth ordering again. The pizza is excellent. The meatball sandwich is homemade and worthy of the praise it’s received in the press. The Stogie Joe stromboli is out of this world (my favorite). There are plenty of beer choices and they are cheap. I prefer an IPA. The service is friendly and hospitable, They treat all their customers like they are one of the family!
Open Mic Night
The bar / restaurant is open from 11am but the real fun gets started when the acts start to play at 8pm. Anyone can perform and all types of music are welcome – from a solo acoustic set to a full on band. Stogie Joes provides a full drum set, a PA system with two mics and a guitar amp. This place is a great place to enjoy fine food, served by a great staff and not get your socks knocked off by the prices. If you like people watching then it is an added bonus for you. I just wish it was a lot bigger, so the wait for a table would take less time. However, after speaking with the owner, they do plan on opening up the second floor to accommodate more seating in the very near future.
