Packer Park Neighbors are protesting outside Camden Iron & Metal because of the earthshaking booms in the middle of the night from shredding automobiles. Angry Packer Park Real Estate owners are saying that the booms are shaking their homes and causing sleep deprivation. The city health department is saying that they are violating noise ordinances at all hours. One neighbor actually said “It’s truly at the level of an earthquake.” The neighbors of Packer Park want the city of Philadelphia to deny owner SPC Corp. the renewal of their health department permit. Their existing permit expires in this upcoming July. Meeting to be held for Packer Park Neighbors

This eyesore sits at the foot of the Platt Memorial Bridge. just a pile of smashed cars is not the most welcoming sign while traveling into the city from the Philadelphia International Airport (just a few miles up the road). Nan Feyler, chief of staff for The Dept. of Public Health mentioned that inspectors conducted overnight surveillance of the plant and issued 4 noise violations just this week. Nan Feyler  also said that the companies permit would not be renewed if the violations were not resolved and if the company doesn’t put procedures in place to resolve the noise situation. SPC Corporation’s Company President Joseph Balzano said that he was trying to stay with the code restrictions but feels as though he is being blamed for every sound in South Philadelphia. Balzano also said that he arranged a meeting with the neighbors scheduled for February 24th. I will post Date & Time of this meeting as soon as it becomes official.

The reason for concern for Packer Park Real Estate values are because neighbors feel like the demand for the houses in Packer Park will slack off and ultimately create a surplus of inventory and cause the values to drop.
